A milk based dessert, made by condensing milk

Type: Desserts Serving: 4 Cooking Time: 30 minutes


  • 5 cups (1 kg) full cream milk
  • cup (240 g) sugar
  • 4-5-chhoti elaichi (green cardamoms)
  • 12-15 almonds (badaam), blanched, and shredded
  • 2 tbsp pistachios (pista), blanched and shredded
  • Vark  (Silver leaf ), optional


  • Bring the milk to a boil in a wide, heavy based pan or a kadahi and add the sugar and elaichi and simmer over low heat.
  • Cook till 1/3 of the volume of milk is left. The time taken will depend on the richness of the milk and your vessel. The wider the vessel and the richer the milk, the faster it will thicken.

  • When done, the colour changes to a beigeish cream.

  • Shut off the heat. When cool, transfer on to a serving dish, put the silver leaf on the top and garnish with the nuts. Chill and serve.
