1-cup (180 g) basmati (long grained rice)

Preparation

Pick the rice to rid it of any stones or grit and wash well till the water runs clear.
Soak the rice for at least 1 hour.
Drain the water and place the rice in a heavy bottomed pan along with 1 ½ cups of water and bring to a boil.
When it comes to a boil, cover, and let it simmer over low heat, till cooked through, and the water is absorbed. Takes about 10 minutes.
