Garlic Rasam (Lassooni Rasam)

  • Oil 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds (Rai) 1 tsp
  • Garlic cloves 3-4 tbsp
  • Whole red pepper (Sabut lal Mirch) 4
  • Curry leaves (Kadhi patta) 5-6
  • Hot water 2 cups
  • Tamarind (Imli) paste 1 tbsp
  • Chilli powder tsp or to taste
  • Salt 1 tsp or to taste
  • Pepper corns (Sabut kali mirch) tsp ]
  • Coriander seeds (Sabut dhania) 2 tsp ] dry roast and blend to a paste, adding water as required
  • Husked Bengal Gram (Channa daal ) 1 tsp ]
  • Cumin seeds (Zeera) 1 tsp ]
  • Curry leaves (Kadhi patta) 7-8 ]
  • Coriander leaves (Hara Dhania), chopped 2 tbsp


  • Heat oil and add mustard seeds. When it splutters, add garlic cloves and saute till a light brown.
  • Add curry leaves and red peppers and saute a little. Add water, imli paste, chilli powder and salt.

  • Bring to a boil and add the paste and the hara dhania. Simmer for 3-4 minutes and serve.
