Savoury Semolina Cake

A savoury cake made on the stove

Type: Semolina (Soojee) Serving: 4-6

Ingredients

  • Semolina (Soojee) 2 cups
  • Yogurt (Dahi), sour 1 cup
  • Salt 1 ½ tsp or to taste
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves (Kadhi patta) 6-7
  • Mustard seeds (Rai) 1 tsp
  • Pea-nuts, roasted and peeled ½ cup
  • Dried Whole Red Pepper (Sabut lal Mirch), broken 1-2
  • Enos fruit salt 2 tbsp
 

Preparation

  • Mix the semolina and yogurt together till it forms a smooth batter of dropping consistency, adding some water to it.
  • Add salt to it, and keep aside.

  • Keep a griddle (tava) over a low flame to heat.

  • In a flat heavy based pan with a lid, heat the oil.

  • Add curry leaves, mustard, red peppers and peanuts and saute till a little fried. Keep aside.

  • Mix the enos in ¼ cup water and stir vigorously till frothy.

  • Transfer this mixture immediately into the pan with peanuts, cover and place over the griddle.

  • It takes 15- 20 minutes to cook. A knife inserted in the center should come out clean when done.

  • Loosen edges and turn upside down into a serving plate and serve with chutney on the side.
