<b>Lauki Khatti Meethi</b>

Simple tangy version of Bottle gourd/lauki/ghiya

Type: Vrat Ka Khaana Serving: 4-6


  • Lauki (Bottle Gourd), peeled and chopped 1 kg
  • Hari mirch (green chilli), chopped to taste
  • Ghee (clarified butter) 2 tbsp
  • Zeera (cumin seeds) 2 tsp
  • Adrak (Ginger), chopped fine 1 tbsp
  • Kadhi Patta (Curry leaves) 1 sprig
  • Sendha namak (rock salt) 2 tsp or to taste
  • Chilli powder 1 tsp or to taste
  • Dhania (Coriander) powder 2 tsp
  • Garam masala 1 tsp
  • Sugar 2 tsp
  • Tamarind pulp 2 tsp
  • Hara dhania (Coriander leaves) for garnish


  • Heat ghee in a wok and add the zeera. When it splutters, add the ginger and kadhi patta and saute till slightly colored.
  • Add the ghiya and green chillies and stir fry to mix well. When they look glossy, add the namak, chilli powder, dhania powder and garam masala.

  • Cook, covered over low heat till ghiya is tender.

  • Add the sugar and tamarind and serve hot garnished with the hara dhania.
